Trying something new... Having fun with Pearlescent glue..

Hello everyone..

A while ago my best friend was clearing out her cubbards and found some old crafting stuff she had from when her childern was smaller. All of them now "too big" to be interested in crafting so she packed it all up and sent it over to me.

In amongst all the goodies I found 5 bottles of pearlescent glue. I have never seen this stuff before but I guess I will describe it as mixture of a paint and a glitter glue, only a solid pearlecsent colour.

I had the bottles on my table for days on end, not knowing what to do with them. Abbie, my 5 year old, used them (using them as a glitter glue), but its hard for her small hands to squeeze the bottles enough so she soon gave up unless I was there to help her.

So I wondered what to do with this when I thought I'd simply squeeze some out of the bottle and maybe make a background.. And thats what I did.. My first attempt wasnt very nice but it gave me a feel for the product and then the fun could begin..

This is the stuff I played with for these cards. They are from Docrafts but no idea if they are still on the market. As I mentioned above, I got these from a friend who was clearing out her cubbards.

All 3 projects has been done by just sqeezing some of the glue out on a piece of card. I got different effect on different card stock so its well worth playing around when trying something new.
This one is made on a piece of glossy card stock. I just mixed the glue with a paintbrush and heated it up with my heat gun. Once heated the glue started to bubble and I love this effect so I kept heating till I got the desired amount of bubbles apeared.
PLEASE NOTE:
When heating glues please watch for fumes. I worked with the window open and in small bursts to avoid sitting in the fumes.

This one is made on a piece of cheap white card stock. Uncoated and coarse to the touch.
I did the same as above. Spread glue with a paintbrush and heated till I got bubbles where I wanted.

Last one is made on a piece of black card stock. I have to say this one is my favorite. I think it looks like a painting (by no means claiming I'm a painter in any way lol) hence why I simply left the card with only the background on it.
Its made just like the other 2 cards. Speading the glue and heating

I've had so much fun making these 3 projects. And even better, there is still tons left in all the bottles for both myself and Abbie to play with. I think I want to try and make a background maybe using some stencils next time.

But that is all from me for today. Thank you for popping by and for any comments left behind.

  1. I'm wondering if it would work mixed with yarn offcuts to make a yarn bowl, I have a lot of the glitter glues - if they haven't dried up, in all sorts of colours!
